Fun in the snow in Year 6!

Take a look at the pictures of our Year 6, making the most out of a snowy morning at Wood Fold!! Well done everyone for making it into school today!

This week in Year 6

In Maths this week we have looked at solving problems involving the calculation of percentages of whole numbers. Including percentages of 32%.

In English we have started reading our new book: Wonder written by R.J. Palacio. It is about a boy who suffers from a facial disfigurement. The story follows his emotional journey as he begins school for the first time. The book is written from various view points including himself and friends and family.

In Science we have looked at the Theory of Evolution by Charles Darwin and how we have evolved over time and how animals have adapted to their environment in order to survive. This was called Natural selection.

This week we also had World Book Day in which we spent a lot of time discussing and comparing books with each other. We even had a hot chocolate and biscuits as we read them! We have been given a great selection of new books to read and reading records to take home and keep our reading experiences logged.

This week Y6T whad the best attendenance in KS2 with a score of 98.5%

World Book Day!

Hi Year 6K

As you are aware today is ‘World Book Day’ and I would love to find out what you enjoy reading. This can be a short blog about the book; why it’s enjoyable; who are the main characters? What is the plot?…..ssshhh don’t give too much away!

My favourite book is: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak – It is set in1939 in Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier.
Liesel, a nine-year-old girl, is living with a foster family on Himmel Street. Her parents have been taken away to a concentration camp. Liesel steals books. This is her story and the story of the inhabitants of her street when the bombs begin to fall.

We rate Alex Rider!

Hi Year 6,

It was great to see how you all thoroughly enjoyed reading Stormbreaker, I know lots of you have started to read the sequel Point Blanc and intend to read the whole series. It is fantastic to see you being so inspired by our class context.

We really enjoyed seeing your enthusiasm for circuits and all things electrical when you constructed tripwires and pressure pads.

Our new context is very different but equally enjoyable -  we hope.

Miss Kelly and Mr Thompson

Welcome back Year 6 Agents!

Welcome back Year 6!

We hope you had a great Christmas and New Year and you have all returned refreshed and ready to work hard, this term. This half-term we will be looking at Anthony Horowitz’s Stormbreaker; following Alex Rider through his gruelling challenges as a spy. We would love you to comment throughout the term, with comments on how your enjoying it and any predictions you may have to what happens next.

Boreatton Park

A fantastic week was had by the Year 6 children who spent a week on residential at Boreatton Park. Well done to you all, you are amazing!

Estimation

Hi everyone,

Try out this maths game to help improve your estimation skills.
Remember, estimating is not meant to be absolutely accurate, we are making a good guess. We can use our rounding skills to estimate answers to calculations to give us a good idea of what the answer will be. Don’t be afraid to estimate- the more you do it- the more accurate you will become.

Have fun :-)
